Mobil2040 – Changing the region through transport

29 May 2015

Mobil2040 sees transport as a driver of change for the Brussels-Capital Region. Far from any technical, segmented approaches, this 30-year vision puts transport at the heart of a complex, rapidly evolving ecosystem.

The Mobil2040 study has been conducted in the context of the Brussels demographic boom, with a likely 25% growth in population by 2040, and the economic, environmental and sociological issues it raises.

Mobil2040 is connected with the smart city concept in many ways. Mobility is not only examined from the point of view of modes of transport, but also, among other things, change of behaviour, new technologies, urban development, community, shared public space, citizen participation, time and the living environment.

Commissioned by Brussels Mobility, the Mobil2040 study was conducted by the engineering firms Technum (Tractebel Engineering) and Espaces-Mobilités.
