The BRIC’s White Paper published in June 2014 is one of the cornerstones of smartcity.brussels. It sets out four challenges for a smart region in response to the key issues affecting Brussels: a connected region, a sustainable region, an open region, a safe region.
The BRIC’s White Paper proposes a smart city strategy for the Brussels-Capital Region, drawing on both existing achievements and new projects. The aim is to achieve the goals set with regard to each challenge by 2019. Progress is measured annually on the basis of key indicators.
The challenges set out in the White Paper are based on seven fundamental undertakings in the digital transition of Brussels:
- Integration of data and services
- A generic model for the business applications
- The Regional Data Centre (RDC)
- The sixth state reform in terms of IT
- UrbIS, the region’s digital map
- IRISnet, the high-speed telecommunications network
