Citizens want the smart city to mean smart administration

08 February 2017

Facilitating relations with administrative services and simplifying procedures: these are two goals in particular that emerge from the suggestions received in 2016 on the Brussels Region’s Smart City portal.

How to make administrative services closer to citizens and, in particular, more in tune with new lifestyles? This is one of the issues of the smart city and of some of the ideas that the citizens placed in the suggestions box of the www.smarticity.brussels portal in 2016.
Good news for these citizens, the IRISbox (www.irisbox.brussels) platform is increasingly responding to their wishes. This electronic one-stop-shop provides 24/7 online access to a whole series of administrative documents.
In addition, IRISbox underwent a complete makeover in 2016. There are two strands to these changes:
  • the interface of the site has been changed to make it more “user-friendly” and ensure that it can be used easily both on a computer and on a tablet;
  • citizens can now connect to IRISbox in 4 different ways (card reader, wireless card reader , token codes or using a code generated via a mobile app).

A better service for the public

IRISbox can be used to carry out administrative procedures over the Internet. At the municipal level, for example, the one-stop-shop provides access to the following procedures: residence certificate, composition of household, life certificate, nationality certificate, judicial record certificate, birth certificate, marriage certificate, divorce certificate, death certificate, change of address declaration.
With IRISbox, the municipalities and other regional administrative services have the opportunity to relieve the pressure on their departments and save precious time for citizens. Great progress in avoiding stress and making services to citizens even more accessible to everyone.
