Simplification of registration for social housing: Fidus

04 April 2017

The Société du Logement de la Région de Bruxelles-Capitale (Housing Company of the Brussels-Capital Region) and the Sociétés Immobilières de Service Public (public service property companies) (SSIS) are launching a test phase for Fidus, a platform via which personal data can be exchanged securely between administrative authorities. Eventually, this platform will reduce the administrative burden for both the services concerned and for applicant tenants.

Fidus services integrator

Brussels Region’s Informatics Centre has developed Fidus for Brussels' public services. Via the online BDR (Regional Database), SSIS have access to certain personal data such as the national register number, date of birth, last and first names, gender, household composition and information regarding disabilities of the applicant tenants.

The necessary measures have obviously been taken to guarantee the security of the system with regard to exchanges of personal data. The privacy protection commission has given its agreement. The SSIS and the SLRB have appointed a security advisor for information exchanges and within each SSIS and the SLRB, a strategy has been developed to protect information.

Simplification of registration

Currently, for SSIS, this is still a test phase enabling them to adapt their way of working to this new method. In the course of 2017, all measures will be taken to adapt the legislation. Therefore, in the future, applicant tenants will have to submit fewer documents to their SSIS when apply for social housing.
