CitizenMap helps the emergency services

04 May 2017

In partnership with the ambulance and fire-fighting personnel of the Fire Brigade and Emergency Medical Service (SIAMU) of the Brussels-Capital Region, the developers of MolenGeek are launching a first application following the “First Aid & Emergency Services” hackathon which took place in the weekend of April 29th to May 1st, 2016.

Just a year ago, the developers of MolenGeek met during a weekend in order to design different applications to help the emergency services. The quality of the prototypes which were presented by the finalist teams convinced the managers of MolenGeek, the Fire Brigade and Emergency Medical Service (SIAMU) of the Brussels-Capital Region and Secretary of State Cécile Jodogne. They therefore decided to support the development of these promising applications. On May 3rd, 2017, the first application has been launched: CITIZENMAP. Its purpose is to collect data on the availability, validity and technical specifications of defibrillators used in the Brussels Region. Cécile Jodogne welcomes the launching of this innovative citizens' tool: “This application is the result of a participatory process in which a citizens' initiative led to a real cooperation between young people who are passionate about new technologies and the Fire Brigade and Emergency Medical Service of the Brussels-Capital Region. It is a fine example of how public-sector actors and a citizens' initiative, such as MolenGeek, work well together in order to save lives.”
