The future of the Brussels Region
The Regional Sustainable Development Plan (PRDD) is a strategic document which sets out the development objectives and priorities of the Region based on its medium- and long-term economic, social, environmental and mobility needs.
By giving final approval for the PRDD, the Brussels’ Government has defined its vision for the Region through 2040. Its goal is to provide the best possible answers to the challenges facing Brussels as an urban region. They include demographic growth and access to housing, economic redeployment and access to employment, functional and social diversity, mobility options and environmental issues.
The PRDD’s regional development and projects are based on four major themes:
- Mobilise the region to build the framework for regional development and create new neighbourhoods
- Mobilise the region to develop a pleasant, sustainable and appealing living environment
- Mobilise the region to develop its urban economy
- Mobilise the region to promote multi-modal travel.
The Regional Sustainable Development Plan was approved on 12 July 2018. It reflects the feedback of citizens and associations (nearly 6,000 opinions were collected during the public inquiry) and the assessments of the Regional Development Commission (CRD).
The PRDD will take effect 15 days after its publication in the Belgian Official Journal.
