Did you know about the Brussels Parking Observatory?

05 December 2018

The Brussel-Capital Region is home to many, many people. It is also an employment hub and a tourist attraction. And however much we may love our busy, sparkling city, we still grumble about the parking situation. However, this is being worked on. In concrete terms, a five-year Regional Parking Policy Plan (GPBP/PRPS)) was launched in 2014 to help people dispose of their vehicles more easily.

One of its most recently implemented measures is brussels.parking’s Parking Observatory, the Brussels-Capital Region’s parking agency.

What?

The regional Parking Observatory is responsible for collecting, processing and publishing a large quantity of parking data and statistics, including the number of parking spaces and the parking available in each of the 19 municipalities.

How?

Parking.brussels collects the parking data of all Brussels’ 19 municipalities, processes them and displays the result on maps that you can view on opendatastore.brussels and MobiGIS, which collects all mobility data relating to Brussels.

Mapviewer is also an interactive map with the latest parking information, which is managed and processed by the Observatory. You can set filters for various criteria, export the selected data in various formats and report parking issues or changes yourself with a single click.

Why?

By publishing this information in the form of open data, the Region is not merely playing a social role by keeping citizens informed, it is also activating change, as the academic and professional worlds can use these data in order to develop changes which can contribute to making parking easier.

The ultimate goal? To make the Brussels Region a Smart City!
