With the opening of this centre, the Brussels-Capital Region now has a public digital space in every commune!
The new public digital space (PDS) in Uccle will be inaugurated on 13 December 2018 by Secretary of State
Bianca Debaets,
Valentine Delwart, municipal councillor in charge of employment, and
Caroline Mancel, Assistant Director General of Actiris, the Brussels employment office. Uccle was able to rely on the Brussels Regional Informatics Centre (BRIC) to set up and equip the DPS. The centre will also service the equipment and carry out repairs when necessary. Responsibility for the training courses and general support has again been entrusted to the non-profit association Fobagra.
Purpose of a PDS
A PDS is the ideal resource hub for people who do not have a computer, printer or other ICT tools at home but who really need it, such as job seekers or students. Those wishing to develop their digital skills can also participate in trainings and workshops – from a basic course in the use of computers to software tuition.
In short, the purpose of a PDS is to ensure that vulnerable groups do not lag behind when it comes to digital technologies but keep up with digitalisation – which is essential if we want to close the digital gap and be a competitive, inclusive Smart City.
Practical details
The Uccle DPS is located at Chaussée d’Alsemberg 1011. The opening times are as follows:
- Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 8.30 am to 12.30 pm and from 1.30 pm to 5.00 pm
- Wednesday from 8.30 am to 12.30 pm.
On Mondays, the Uccle DPS is reserved exclusively for training courses and workshops.
