The Schools Department of perspective.brussels is calling for projects to support pilot coding-training initiatives for students and teachers in the Brussels Region.
Why teach coding?
To freely move and develop in our digital societies and understand the world around them, people now need tools that enable them to understand digital technology in the wider sense.
As citizens, it is important that young people not be passive players/consumers of digital equipment and content. It therefore becomes essential to
increase students’ skill sets by enabling them to overcome any apprehensions concerning
computer thinking and
algorithmic logic, in particular by learning to code. Mastery of digital technologies is also a genuine asset on the labour market.
A regional call for projects
At the suggestion of Minister-President Rudi Vervoort and Bianca Debaets, Secretary of State for Informatics and the Digital Transition at the local and regional level, the Brussels Region government has decided to allocate 150,000 euros to the financing of activities that enable students and teachers in the Region to learn coding. This decision was made under the
Strategy 2025 Schools Programme for Brussels (FR/NL).
The activities will be developed by the non-profit or public sector in schools and approved teaching establishments in the Brussels-Capital Region. Although this programme is mainly intended for students, teachers may also join in.
Applications should be sent to the Schools Department of perspective.brussels by 31 January 2019.
