Smart City Challenge: discover the winners in Smart Economy!

11 March 2020

On 1 October 2019, a competition was launched on this website: the Smart City Challenge. Want to know more about the competition and winners? Read on!

Who?

The organiser of the challenge was the Brussels Region Informatics Centre, which is in charge of rolling out the smart-city policy in the Brussels Region and promoting it in Belgium and abroad.

Why?

The aim of this challenge was to enable you, the inhabitants and citizens of Brussels and its environs, to brainstorm with us and come up with projects and initiatives to move our region forward. We believe that citizen involvement can add considerable value to our traditional representative democracy.

How?

For the sake of clarity, the competition was divided into several categories: Smart Mobility, Smart Quality of Life, Smart Economy, Smart Society and Smart Environment. Up to three winning suggestions could be chosen in each category.

The suggestions were ranked according to the number of little hearts they earned – the average score awarded by visitors to the website. In the event of a draw, the exact number of votes was counted.

And now, the winners...!

During the competition, we announced a different Smart City category each week. We shall be doing the same via a video with the winning suggestions for each category on our Facebook page.

We are now moving on to … Smart Society. Please find below the winning suggestions:

>>>>>> A reminder of the municipal rules by Lorenzo
>>>>>> Alexandra's tuk-tuk taxi
>>>>>> Stéphane's green neighbourhood

You can also view the video on the CIRB - CIBG YouTube channel.

PS. Even if the competition is closed, we still welcome your suggestions. The Brussels Region firmly believes in the “quadruple helix”, in which individuals, teaching institutes, enterprises and the authorities join forces to help create a sustainable society. For further information concerning the Brussels-Capital Region’s vision, read this memorandum published in April 2019.
