The BRIC has taken part in a broad-ranging project to equip the 138 care homes in the Brussels-Capital Region with tablets, so that their elderly residents can keep in touch with their families and friends during this lockdown period.
This project is being implemented at the request of Minister Alain Maron and Minister Bernard Clerfayt, and is the result of close collaboration between several
partners, whose actions were coordinated by the
BRIC.
Iriscare, the public interest body responsible for assistance to the elderly, ordered 150 tablets via
IRISnet and its partner
Orange. Thanks to its involvement and a financial participation, this telecoms partner has provided high-quality
Samsung tablets that meet the needs of the elderly persons in terms of manageability and general use!
These tablets will have a three-month internet connection via a SIM card provided by
Orange, and will be configured by the Digital Public Spaces multimedia leaders from the
CABAN network. These leaders will add several programmes, such as WhatsApp, Skype and Jitsi, so that users can connect with their families and friends. The multimedia leaders will also provide remote assistance (via TeamViewer, for example) to deal with any problems our elderly residents may encounter.
The
BRIC will deliver the tablets to the care homes, along with instructions that answer the basic questions the users may have.
