#Brusselshacksthe crisis: Brussels residents opted for a cycling and tourism app
• 07 July 2020
As favourite ideas of the #brusselshacksthecrisis project, the people of Brussels opted for a cycling app and a tourism app. These two projects will be now developed by students during the Open Summer of Code in July.
The # Brusselshacksthecrisis project, launched on June 4, assembled more than a hundred ideas to redraw Brussels after the Covid pandemic. A jury of experts selected the six best ideas to put them to the people of Brussels to vote on.
After 10 days, nearly 1000 votes were cast, with "Brussels is biking" collecting more than 308 votes, and the Brussels walking app, "Tourist in my city", 217 votes.
Brussels is Biking is a free application that groups everything cyclists need. The app accompanies the cyclist in his inner pocket during the entire cycling adventure. A map with bicycle sheds, repairers, or water fountains, you will find it all on this app. But also, an agenda with bicycle-related events, a tracking system to prevent the theft of bicycles or an overview of dangerous roads.
The application for walks in Brussels "Tourist in my city" meets the need to (re) discover the city in this specific period. The application shows you different routes with a goal to achieve: a park, a fresco, an unusual place, etc. The application keeps track of the trips already made in order to invite users to discover other neighbourhoods and allows citizens and associations to To propose and share Brussels walks on themes that are close to their hearts.
These two ideas are now being developed in July by IT students during the Open Summer of Code. On July 30 on Demo Day, the concrete prototypes will be presented to discover the apps.
