Donate instead of throwing away, recycle instead of buying something new: that’s the objective of the virtual give-away shop established by the municipality of Auderghem! Earmarked for the residents of the municipality, the site is similar to an online sales platform. With one major difference: here, everything is free!
This virtual platform facilitates exchanges by allowing anyone to advertise and browse items at any time from the comfort of their home. Anyone who owns an item that they no longer wish to keep can register on the site and publish an advert. If anyone is interested in the item in question, they can acquire it free of charge by contacting the advertiser directly via the site. The two parties can then agree to organise the collection of the item.
Furniture that you don’t know what to do with anymore? Games left unused for a long time? Or, conversely, do you want to find a book or need a household appliance? In Auderghem, in all these situations, the answer is to head to the website of the
online give-away shop. Clothes, DVDs, decorations, kitchen utensils, ... over 120 items are currently available.
With this platform, the municipality puts technology at the service of the circular economy, resolutely going against waste and consumerism. "It’s particularly frustrating to see items that work perfectly well ending their days in the rubbish dump," comments Thomas Bogaert, head of the municipality’s environmental department.
