Brussels municipalities accessible by mobile phone
• 17 November 2020
Did you know? Several Brussels municipalities have developed mobile apps in order to be ever closer to their citizens. As such, Berchem-Sainte-Agathe, Uccle, the City of Brussels and Forest now offer their residents fast and convenient access to municipal information, anywhere, anytime.
The latest news, the calendar for activities and events, practical information, nearby points of interest, the status of works in progress, information on the various departments of the administration, these are some of the main features available.
But some municipalities have gone a step further! For example, the apps of Uccle and Berchem-Sainte-Agathe also link to "Fix My Street" from the home screen. This feature makes it easier to report incidents in the public area. As for the City of Brussels, it gives users the opportunity to browse the municipal magazine, 'Le Brusseleir', and see live footage from 3 webcams (Brussels Grand-Place, Atomium, and Place de Brouckère).
These apps are also a way for municipalities to keep in contact with their citizens, especially younger people, and to make their communication more effective and relevant. Using new technologies is the modern way for municipalities to adapt to the new needs of their citizens.
"As a municipal administration, we have a duty to keep abreast of the developments that influence the methods of communication that we use to provide the people of Berchem with the information they need. We want to communicate with our fellow citizens wherever they are, and today they are on their smartphone" concludes Joël Riguelle, Mayor of Berchem-Sainte-Agathe.
