GAIA-X for Belgium launches on 26 January. With the BRIC

21 January 2021

GAIA-X! Remember this name, because this project will transform the Belgian cloud and data ecosystem! The aim of this new European project is to make our continent a leader in the global data economy and effectively support European companies in the sector. As you can see, this initiative is a further step towards a stronger European digital single market!

Under the umbrella of the Federation for the Technology Industry Agoria, the Belgian GAIA-X for Belgium hub is making a strong impact by joining forces with key partners; the BRIC will play a major role as a founding member alongside Informatie Vlaanderen, Beltug, Agence du Numérique, the FPS Economy and BOSA.

The first good opportunity to better understand the project is on 26 January!  "GAIA-X for Belgium" will organise a launch event that will bring together all Belgian cloud and data stakeholders for the first time. Political decision-makers and sector experts will examine together how GAIA-X can develop in our Kingdom and the usefulness of the project at European level.

After an introduction by Marc Lambotte (CEO of Agoria), a first governmental panel will discuss the compatibility of the project with the vision of data at national and regional levels and analyse the data management priorities that Belgium and its different regions have set.

Nicolas Locoge, Director-General of the BRIC, will take part in this first debate and will of course present the vision of the Brussels Region on data and the cloud. Alongside him, other speakers such as Hubert Tardieu (CEO of GAIA-X), Barbara Van Den Haute (Agentschap Informatie Vlaanderen) and Benoit Hucq (Agence du Numérique) will discuss ways to increase data sharing in Belgium and its regions.

A second round table, with industry experts such as Danielle Jacobs (CEO of Beltug) and Antoine Kerrinckx (CEO Belgium & Luxembourg of Atos Group), will address the following issues: "What can GAIA-X bring to cloud users on the one hand and to providers on the other?" and "How to increase data sharing in Belgium."

The event will close with the presentation of GAIA-X's future plans for 2021.
