In 2014 the Brussels Capital-Region was chosen as one of 16 winning cities worldwide in the IBM Smarter Cities Challenge, in which IBM provides local authorities with expertise to help build a smarter, more efficient city.
IBM sent a team of experts to the Brussels-Capital Region for three weeks in February 2015. They worked closely with the Brussels authorities, providing recommendations on how best to integrate different modes of transport to create a coherent, stable system that reduces congestion in the region. The expert report set forth ten recommendations on five themes: public data, infrastructure, the experience of mobility, practical implementation and governance. The region’s participation in the IBM Smarter Cities Challenge was initiated by Brussels Mobility.
