A hackathon focusses on family life

24 November 2017

The Smart Family hackathon from 8 to 10 December will challenge participants to imagine start-up ideas to improve and facilitate the daily life of families. Organised by the Women in Tech.Brussels cluster and supported by Brussels Smart City, Smart Family is intended for creative and technical business experts.

Whether large, single parent or blended … families have to juggle with a multitude of constraints every day. Mobility, education, leisure time, housing, finances … the big and small problems to solve cover a wide range of themes. But Smart City can provide solutions. The Smart Family hackathon aims to come up with some of these solutions.

What is Smart Family?

  • A three-day weekend where men and women meet to create and develop innovative solutions for the major challenge that is family life! On this occasion, the organisers of Smart Family wish to see the development of start-up ideas around four main themes: education, well-being, communication and mobility. The projects may be based on new technologies and on new economic models: circular, collaborative or cooperative.

How does Smart Family work?

Over the entire weekend, the hackathon teams will be accompanied by a 'Super Hero' mentor to assist them in their discussions and work. Experts will also be available at various times over the weekend, to answer specific technical questions on a financial, technological, strategic, marketing or design level. The Centre d’Informatique pour la Région Bruxelloise (Brussel Regional Informatics Centre) will provide several of these experts on behalf of Brussels Smart City.
On Sunday afternoon, a jury will assess the quality of the projects in terms of viability, appeal, feasibility and impact. The best teams will take away a number of different awards which will allow them to really develop their start-up after the hackathon.
