The Brussels Smart City programme of events is continuing until 2019. Having already tackled education, culture and the economy, our next event will look at local authorities and will be aimed at all elected municipal councillors and municipal officials.
The digital revolution has not only changed our way of life, but has also forced local authorities to change. Digital solutions have become an incredible opportunity for local development. They allow us to improve citizen services and strengthen social ties. Brussels’ municipalities have taken heed of this and the Region is supporting them in their digital endeavours. Digital projects are springing up in diverse fields, from online administration to social networks, tools for citizen participation, intelligent infrastructure management, open data, and more. And Brussels is also being transformed into a smart city in all of its 19 municipalities!
What role does local government play in this new digital age? What role can technology play in the democratic process, in order to stimulate citizen participation? How can we use it to simplify municipal administration and management? What examples can we follow?
These are just a few of the questions that will be considered during the next Brussels Smart City event.
