In 2016, Bruxelles Environnement decided to create an umbrella for their calls for citizen projects: 'Inspirons Le Quartier'. Each year, they call upon the citizens of Brussels to propose a sustainable project for their neighbourhood.
Most importantly, the project must be citizen-driven and benefit the residents by involving them in environmental protection and sustainable development.
Since the launch of the initiative in 2016, the people of Brussels have come up with a great many ideas for their neighbourhood: thus far, almost 120 projects have received the support of Bruxelles Environnement. These projects are run by friends or neighbours and aim to reconnect people with nature, reduce waste and promote more sustainable food. These are all wonderful sources of inspiration which help to preserve the environment by creating a friendly neighbourhood dynamic and improving the quality of life.
The smart city is oriented to its citizens and businesses… and listens to their ideas.
