The main focus of the digital transformation in the Brussels region is to turn Brussels into an example of a Smart City, an intelligent city that enhances the quality of life for everyone in Brussels, those passing through (commuters, tourists, etc.) as well as its residents, thanks to new technology.
As part of this, the Brussels region has expressed a desire to bring together all services in a single app aimed at citizens and to create a dialogue between these different stakeholders in the projects and the future of the region.
This has been achieved with the My Brussels mobile app,
a digital guide accessible in a single, completely free mobile application.
The app was designed to quickly and easily offer clear and useful information for everyday life, by means of a progressive and user-friendly interface. Available on iOS and Android, the app can be personalised depending on the needs and interests of each person. As such, each user can add ‘tiles’/services useful to them in their daily life, personalise them according to location (e.g. cleaning services) and their habits (e.g. frequently-used buses, nearby Villo! terminal), as well as organise them. Various portals previously available, such as IRISbox and Fix My Street, are also included in this unique platform.
The region wants to include its citizens in its digital transition projects. The platform has therefore been designed to be open to private as well as public initiatives in order to be continuously improved with new features. For instance, a few months ago, residents were called on to submit their best ideas for the region and to vote for those of their fellow citizens, as part of #BrusselsHacksTheCrisis. The first tangible result: the Better Bike app, winner of this campaign, has been included in My Brussels. The region is eagerly awaiting more ideas!
While it is the Brussels Regional Informatics Centre (BRIC) that will be developing this mobile solution over the coming months, Nicolas Locoge, Director-General of BRIC, highlights a joint achievement:
"Bruxelles-Propreté contributes, for example, to this app! Without our partners and their willingness to invest in such data-sharing projects, this initiative wouldn’t see the light of day. The BRIC would not be able to play a leading role in the digital transition in Brussels and the creation of a Smart City on a regional scale."
