In order to showcase their efforts with respect to human rights, as set out in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the municipality of Jette asked Kool Koor to develop a graffiti trail. As one of the pioneers of the New York graffiti movement and, since 1999, resident of Brussels, he was the ideal person for the job.
With this street art, the municipality aims to connect various neighbourhoods with one another and stimulate social inclusion by means of openness and encouraging dialogue.
A picture is worth a thousand words
Human rights was the central theme in the graffiti trail. Rights that apply to every individual.
‘Yes We Can - Jette 2020’ selected artists (m/f) who focus on human rights and who have experience in translating this into major, inspiring works in public spaces. Every artist chose an article from the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and created an image on this basis.
There are both figurative and abstract works to be seen. The street trail comprises 6 enormous frescos and 60 painted public bins, distributed across the entire Jette area.
